20 degrees this weekend in East Tennessee...... Fall is slipping away and winter will be here in no time. I can deal with the temperatures, but last year it was gray and wet and that wears me down pretty quickly. I'm taking a little different approach this year with my training. With the injury I have basically been in base 1 since September and it is time to add a little bit of intensity. The plan is lots of tempo work and SST. This formula works really well for raising my ftp. The big change this year is that I am going to do most of my work on the TT bike. I think I want to get back to focusing on TT's next year and I have yet to overcome the 35 minute problem. And that problem is that I can hit all of my numbers on the TT bike for 35 minutes or less, but after that I have a huge fall-off compared to the road bike. So this winter my long tempo rides will be on the TT bike as well as my indoor 2 X 20's. In fact, I have decided to do all of my testing on this rig as well. It may make my road bike ftp a little low, but I can compensate for that in training. It is much harder to try and figure out how to pace on race day when you aren't sure of what you can hit. A big thanks goes to the makers of e-motion rollers. I'm doing all of my inside TT bike work on the rollers and it is way better than the stationary trainer.
Peace out.
