It's better to burn out than fade away
There are many benefits to building your season around a specific event. You get to a level of detail that I think a lot of other racers never get to see. When it is cold or raining and you don't want to train, the thought of that one race is enough to get you out of bed or out the door. You don't dare miss a workout. Your equipment choices are perfect. Then you race and... win or lose you are left without any direction. That is where I am. The State TT was my A race for the year. Everything I did this year was built around that event. It did not go quite like I had hoped, but it was not for lack of preparation. Now I find myself totally unfocused. The state RR is coming up on a course that actually suits me pretty well. It is part of an omnium with a good TT and even a crit that I could do well in. However, I have no desire to train. I still want to ride, but the tought of doing intervals is as repulsive as watching an episode "insert any MTV reality show". So here I am. Looking for motivation. Hopefully I will snap out of it. We are approaching the end of the racing season, but entering my favorite time to ride the bike, fall and early winter. Hopefully I can find a little more motivation. 3 weeks and the season is over.
